5K or 6K? What you are really buying by moving up a size
Both display the same fineness: 218 and 223 pixels per inch, Retina density. The difference is therefore not sharpness, but surface — and the price gap is judged by that yardstick. Here is how to decide.

Sharpness is the same. It is counter-intuitive, and yet
People readily imagine that a 6K is "sharper" than a 5K. That is false, because the extra pixels serve to cover a larger panel. A 27-inch 5K displays 218 pixels per inch; a 32-inch 6K displays 218 or 223 depending on the model. At equal distance, a character occupies the same number of pixels on both.
What you buy by moving to 6K is therefore not fineness: it is room. About 44% more usable surface with the G32P, at rigorously identical sharpness.
What 44% more space changes in practice
- Two genuinely usable windows side by side. At 2560 × 1440, two windows are 1280 points wide each: acceptable. At 3072 × 1728 they are 1536 points: comfortable, with the toolbars complete.
- A video timeline and a 4K program monitor at real scale, with no panels folded away.
- A photo at full resolution with the palettes around it, rather than a zoom that fills the whole screen.
- A complete development environment: editor, terminal, browser and documentation visible at the same time.
Conversely, if you mostly work full screen on a single application, those 44% will not help you much.
The technical constraint: bandwidth
A 6K panel at 60 Hz demands about 26 Gbit/s, against 17 for a 5K. That requires recent connectivity: DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, or DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC compression. On an Apple Silicon Mac, no problem. On a PC, check that your graphics card supports DSC: this is the case for NVIDIA GeForce RTX and AMD Radeon RX 6000 and later. The physical constraint: viewing distance
A 32-inch is about 71 cm wide. On a shallow desk, where the screen sits 50 cm from your eyes, it forces you to sweep the room with your gaze instead of taking it in at a glance. At 70 cm it becomes natural. Measure before ordering: it is the leading cause of disappointment.
