The design of Kuycon monitors: machined aluminium and thin bezels

A machined chassis, not moulded

Most monitors on the market use an injection-moulded plastic back, sometimes dressed with a decorative plate. The recent models in the Kuycon range are built on an aluminium chassis, CNC machined and then anodised, in a silver finish.

The difference is not only visual. A block of aluminium conducts heat: it draws the heat from the electronics out through its surface, which makes it possible to do without a fan. A silent monitor, even after eight hours, is not a detail in a quiet office. The rigidity also changes how it feels: no flex, no creaking when you tilt the panel.

On the P32T, that chassis measures 716 × 413 × 22 mm for 6.5 kg. Twenty-two millimetres thick, on a 32-inch: that is what gives it that slim silhouette seen from the side.

The bezels, equal on all four sides

A detail you mainly notice when it is missing: most monitors have three thin bezels and a thick chin at the bottom, where the electronics sit. The recent Kuycon models spread a bezel of identical width all the way round. The eye stops catching on an asymmetry, and two monitors side by side line up cleanly.

The back: standard or perforated

On several models the back comes in two versions. The standard finish is smooth and understated. The perforatedfinish, honeycomb style, adds a regular pattern of perforations that helps dissipate heat — it is an option, charged at €40 on the G27P.

The choice only matters if the back of your monitor is visible: an island desk, an open room, a workstation facing a sofa. Against a wall, nobody will ever see it.

The glass: glossy anti-reflective or matte

Two treatments coexist in the range, and that is no accident. The glossy anti-reflective — G27P, G32P, P27Z, P32K — preserves contrast and saturation, and gives that impression of depth people associate with Apple monitors. The matte — G32X, P27L, P40K — scatters reflections, essential facing a window.

The stand, and ergonomics

The ergonomic stand offered with the monitors provides 120 mm of height adjustment, tilt, swivel and 90-degree rotation for portrait mode. It is ordered in a pack with the monitor or separately — the monitor on its own comes with its VESA 100 × 100 adapter, which leaves the field clear for a desk arm. No buttons under the panel

Settings go through a remote control supplied with the monitor, and through the DDC/CI protocol, which lets you control brightness, contrast and temperature from the computer's keyboard. No more feeling for a joystick under the bottom bezel. It is a design choice consistent with thin bezels: there is simply no room left for a row of keys.

Yes, it looks like an Apple monitor

Better to say it directly, several outlets have noted it: the inspiration is visible. Aluminium chassis, thin bezels, minimalist stand, glossy glass — the design language is that of the Studio Display, and it is deliberate on the models designed for Mac users.

Two ways to take that. If you have an aluminium MacBook, a Magic Keyboard and a Mac mini on your desk, a monitor that clashes with the rest is noticeable every day: visual consistency is an argument here, not a flaw. If, on the contrary, that resemblance bothers you on principle, it is a point to factor in: it is deliberate and it will not go away.
